I work best when I understand what the software is meant to achieve — not only what needs to be coded.
Whether I am joining an established system or helping build something new, I take responsibility for turning requirements into a complete, dependable solution. That means looking beyond the immediate task and considering architecture, usability, maintainability and the effect on the rest of the product.
Understand before building
I start by understanding the business process, the existing system and the reason behind the requested functionality.
This helps uncover edge cases early, avoid unnecessary complexity and make technical decisions that support the actual product rather than only the initial specification.
Own the complete solution
I am comfortable working across backend, frontend, databases, integrations and deployment.
Instead of treating these as separate areas, I consider how they work together and take responsibility for delivering a feature all the way from technical design to production.
Build for long-term use
Working software is only the beginning. I care about whether it will remain understandable, reliable and practical to extend months or years later.
I prefer pragmatic solutions, incremental modernisation and improvements that reduce future maintenance without introducing unnecessary risk.
Communicate clearly
I work independently, but never in isolation. I stay close to project managers, product owners, designers and other developers throughout the process.
I ask questions when something is unclear, explain technical trade-offs in plain language and raise potential problems before they become expensive to fix.
Modern tools, experienced judgement
I use AI coding agents in my daily workflow for codebase exploration, implementation, refactoring, testing and technical research.
They help me work more efficiently, but architecture, verification and final decisions remain my responsibility.

Still curious after more than 15 years
I’m Rafał, a Senior Full-Stack Developer based in Zielona Góra, Poland.
I have been building software professionally for more than 15 years, and I still genuinely enjoy the process of making something useful. What keeps me interested is the combination of technical problem-solving, product thinking and the small details that make software pleasant to use.
I am equally comfortable working on backend logic and user interfaces. I particularly enjoy projects where I can understand the wider product, take responsibility for a meaningful part of it and watch it evolve over time.
Curiosity also tends to follow me outside client work. I am usually learning something new, experimenting with technology or developing one of my own ideas. Astoria SQL Client, the desktop application I built because I could not find a MySQL tool that worked the way I wanted, grew out of exactly that habit.
Outside of software, I try to balance all that screen time with cycling 🚴, running 🏃 and time with my family 👨👩👦.
